This last Sunday, my family celebrated my mom’s 82nd birthday.
She wanted to go to one of her favorite restaurants, Psistaria in Lincolnwood.
Our reservations were for 2:00pm. I gave myself a good hour to get there. I was anticipating that it would take me only 35 minutes, but I wanted to give myself some wiggle room just in case there was any unexpected traffic.
On our way to the restaurant, we were making great time. It looked like we were going to be at the restaurant about 20 minutes early.

Then we hit major traffic. No one was moving.
It turns out that a freight train had stopped on the tracks for some time and it was not moving.
My sister began to call, “When are you getting here the restaurant won’t seat us until you get here.” My heart began to pound, and I was getting anxious. I then turned into a side street to find another road. That road was also affected by the stopped train.
I felt like I was trapped and was going to ruin my mom’s day. People in the car were trying to talk to me.
I was very short and rude with my responses. I was feeling very concerned that I was going to be very late.
Eventually the train began to move, and we arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes late.
