Remembering an Old Friend

Everyone has had people that have influenced their life. I’ve had a few but there are very few people that influenced me more than Frank Munoz.

Frank had an ability to influence and guide people. He was my dentist and was one of the people that influenced me to go into dentistry.

Before I met Frank, I was at Indiana University in business school but not totally excited about going the corporate route. I wanted to open my own business but didn’t know what to get into.

I had to go to the dentist, but I did not click with my parents’ dentist. He was a guy that you could tell didn’t love his job and it was a depressing place to be.

Probably because he was unhappy to be there, and it radiated throughout the entire place.

My aunt and uncle had a medical clinic, and she knew a lot of people. I asked her if she knew of any good dentists. She told me about this new dentist who had just graduated from Northwestern and had his own office on Lincoln Ave. His name was Frank Munoz.

The second I walked into the place I felt the joy and the positive energy that the place had. Frank had this contagious laugh, and it could be heard from a block away. He would release that laugh several times a day.

That day, I received the most thorough dental examination and was given, for the first time, intense training on how to take care of my teeth and gums. The moment that I left his office, I knew I was going to be a dentist.

I went back to school and figured out what I needed to do to graduate with a business degree and take the necessary classes to get into dental school. It wasn’t the traditional way but WHEN THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S A WAY.

Frank ended up hiring me immediately after dental school. I worked with Frank for 5 years and then I opened Dente.

Last week, I went out with some of the many people that Frank influenced. We spent the whole lunch talking about Frank.

Frank passed away almost ten years ago, from brain cancer (glioblastoma). I think about him a lot and a huge part of Frank is in Dente. Tune in tomorrow for the rest of the story.

If you are having a great experience here at Dente, please tell your family and friends about us. They can visit us at mydente.com or call 773-292-1911.
