I’ve always liked going to businesses that have a community. My dad’s gas station was like that.
You would go there and there were a bunch of guys that would hang out there. They were from the neighborhood.
They would sit there, tell stories and joke around. There was always some kind of crazy thing that would happen. It was a fun place to hang out.
Down the street there was another business that I loved going to as well. It was Tony the Barber. Tony was this old-time barber, off the boat from Italy.
You could walk in with a picture out of a magazine as to the haircut you wanted. Tony would say, “Don’t worry about it. I got you.” And then give you the same haircut he gave everyone else. All his haircuts were identical, but he did it perfectly.
His barber shop was always packed with guys from the neighborhood. Some of the guys were getting their hair cut but others just hung out.
They would talk about all the stuff that was happening in the neighborhood.
Subjects like who died, politics and sports. His shop was a meeting place for many of the guys in the neighborhood.
All of the businesses that I went to while growing up were like that. It’s what I was attracted to.
All my family had their own businesses, and they were all like that as well. They all had a sense of community.

When I built my business, I wanted to have that feeling.
I wanted to make it like you were arriving at your friend’s house. I wanted to make it welcoming and friendly. I began hiring people that had that friendliness and caring attitude.
Many of our patients have been with us since the beginning. Almost 20 years now. I’ve been the only dentist these patients have seen. They trust us with their care and their family’s care.

This type of dental model is a dying model. Today most of the offices are becoming corporate offices. You see a different dentist each time.
This is very unsettling for many people. Many prefer the feeling of consistency, while being able to move forward in their oral health.
If you are looking for an office that feels like a community, it’s time to give us a call. Visit us at mydente.com or call 773-292-1911 today!
