Living the City Dog Life

When we went away to Florida for our spring break, one of the things was we had to find was a dog sitter while we were away. Finn’s babysitter helped us out and took our dog, Luca, to her house.

We live in La Grange, which is a very quiet town. Luca has a fenced in yard and is able to run around in the back. Our babysitter lives downtown, off Michigan Ave, which is very different from La Grange.

While we were in Florida, our babysitter kept sending us photos of the dog. I would see him walking around with the tall buildings and the hundreds of cars that drove by.

As I looked at the photos, I was trying to imagine what the dog was thinking while he was walking around downtown.

Was he nervous with all of the new things around him or was he excited? Did he notice how the pavement felt on his paws? Did he notice the different smells?

Ultimately, I don’t really know what he was thinking with his new city experience.

Putting ourselves in other people's shoes is difficult.

We have patients that want to enhance their smile and describe the changes they want. We will make those changes and create a prototype with those changes.

Most of the time, the patient loves their new and improved smile but there are times that the patient is surprised and not totally satisfied.

They may think that the color is not white enough, the teeth look too long, or the shape is not how they imagined it would be.

We all notice different things, and it is very difficult to imagine changes until we actually see them in our face.

Predicting what other people will feel in certain situations is really difficult. We need to try to recreate the situation, and have the person experience the changes for themselves.

There’s nothing like being able to “TEST DRIVE” your improved smile before starting any cosmetic procedure.
