Finding Your People

Whenever I have a new patient come in, the first question I ask them is how they heard about us.

A growing number of patients have answered that they were referred by a friend or family member. This type of referral for us is always the best one.

These patients tend to be very similar to the people that referred them and a large majority of the time, we have a great connection with them.

Then I will ask why they decided to leave their previous dentist.

The most common reason, BY FAR, is that their previous dentist that they loved so much sold the practice to a group, and they no longer feel the same type of connection to that group.

Many of them will describe that they no longer are seeing one dentist. Instead, they see a group of dentists and are given a different dentist each time they go in for treatment.

They say that they are unable to build a relationship with the office because each time they see someone new. Also, they feel that they are not getting consistent care because of the lack of consistency with providers.

This last month we had four new patients come into our office with that exact same story. And it’s happening more and more.

Private equity is buying up all the mom-and-pop dental offices and then implementing them with their corporate business systems.

The thing that makes mom-and-pop businesses great is their warm feeling when you walk in. You feel that you have a friendship with the office. And you feel like they have your best interest at heart.

That feeling of connectiveness is dying with the corporate model. It’s all about efficiency and numbers.

Here at Dente, we are a good ol’ fashioned dental office. But we’re not old-fashioned with our technology and our approach to dental treatments.

When it comes to technology and education, our team is constantly learning, growing, and staying at the top of our game, trying to get better every day.

Whenever I’m planning treatment for our patients, I’m thinking about what I would do if this was my family member. My dad, my mom or sister.

And I’m always thinking about how this treatment will affect them in the future.

I think about what’s the most conservative treatment that we could perform to fix their issue and save their teeth.
