Anxiety After Trauma

It’s been 6 months since I had my heart attack. The number one question people ask me is, “How do you feel?” Before the heart attack, I was feeling some mild chest pain that was radiating to my back. From a pain level of 1 to 10, it was maybe a 1 or 2. Very mild but noticeable. I was linking it to acid reflux and heart issues was not on my mind. Now, that mild pain has been completely eliminated. The most noticeable thing that happened to me after my heart attack was how mentally scared I felt about my health. Any little discomfort that I felt, my mind went to the worst possible place. I was thinking that I was going to have another heart attack, I had cancer, and every other ailment a human could have. I became a severe hypochondriac.

The one thing that doctors don’t really talk about, is how after a heart attack, it affects your mind. It really affects your insecurity of your health and your mortality.

For the last couple of months, my mind has been in a much better place. I no longer feel random areas of discomfort.

It funny how our mind works. Once the mind begins to calm down, the body begins to feel better.

Our minds can control how we feel certain things and accentuate that feeling.

Dentistry is no different. Many people will have at least one traumatic dental appointment.

For many people, that event will leave them scared of the dentist. Their mind will keep them from seeking dental care even if they are experiencing a dental issue.

When someone is nervous of going to the dentist, all of their senses are enhanced.

The noises become louder. The smells become stronger. Any type of work in the mouth becomes more uncomfortable.
